The challenge of this competition was to take advantage of the space that the suburban mall inhabits by increasing its density and engaging the community. The proposal overtakes the existing space of the parking lot and doubles the square footage of retail space. The typical double loaded corridor is splayed open to introduce landscape into the route through the mall. Instead of the anchor store as a node point for entry and circulation, there is a reversal of solid and void as the space of the park becomes the new center of the mall. Honorable Mention.
